Cote d'Azur

Greetings fellow lovers of house, first up, apologies for the silence, i've been maxing out by the coastline, recharging and generally taking a break from everything. The best thing about this break is that the it has given me a new appreciation for house music. My ears are once again alert to the little beats, snares, drums that had become lost in the blur of excess. I'm back and promise to bring you more, better, more current music.

Secondly, on a sadder note, the events of Love Parade have cast a negative light on large-scale parties. Let this be the last. My condolences to the families of those revellers. Keep checking the blog..

People Say...

I'm a big fan of going out and hearing thick phat dirty bass lines, but during the week when the day is ending you'd probably find me listening to a chilled deep/deep-tech/minimal set. The peace and pure joy that deep house brings me cannot be quantified. Anyway to the point, here's a number that captures the emotion of those deep fuelled evenings, of course its a Jimpster remix but also a banging original from Andreas Saag. Enjoy it

I'm a very visual person, so whenever I listen to a song/banger there's always an accompanying image/s in my mind. When i first listened to this, rays of sunlight pierced my inner mind, I imagined dancing with reckless abandon with sparkling water as my dance floor, truly special indeed. This MCDE remix is extraordinarily spectacular in its quiet emancipating rhythms. The vocals are SO on point, Macasu...

Piano Interlude

I first got introduced to DJ Koze on Justin Martins "Chaos Restored 2" compilation, with his beautiful deep tech number 'lets love'. Recently his name has been appearing all over the blogosphere and my oh my, is the attention deserved. He's latest works are nothing short of musical masterpieces. First up is a calmingly-repetetive piano based wonder with epic buildups and easy vocals. Get It.

Dance Me

Riva Starr has been on top form lately and best of all he keeps re-defining his sound. His offerings are always unique and remixed by some of the best producers in the game. This time round he creates a jazz influenced carribean sounding track that gets the remix treatment from the equally talented Oliver $. It's a rolling epic journey of jungle sounds, ha ha ha, thats the best I could do. Enjoy

Melanchappiness

Melanc-happiness is the only way to truly describe this remix. The original by Donnacha Costello is a powerfully moving and somewhat sad song about dancing through hard times. When I discovered that it had been given the re-work treatment I was eager and anxious to see how they could add to the superb original. Neville Watson and KiNK manage to add a defiantly upbeat layer to the original, you dance thru your hard times, you sing thru your hard times...

Home

This number feels like home for so many reasons, It has a feel that embodies everything that is house to me. The big room feel that could move a whole dance floor, a simple rhythm that allows the most rhythmically challenged person to sway in ignorant bliss and the soulful interludes that build up the anticipation to a point where emotions literally explode onto the dance floor. Kudo's to Surrealism for allowing me to put into words what house music really means to me.

Surrealism - So Much

Bomba Taxi!

It's always exciting discovering new producers, last week I came across one, Thomas Schumacher. Be warned this track is epic, in a deep-tech, bass in your face way. It's a very simple track but it has a lot of attitude that comes across in its repetitive thumps. Enjoy..
