Dance Me

Riva Starr has been on top form lately and best of all he keeps re-defining his sound. His offerings are always unique and remixed by some of the best producers in the game. This time round he creates a jazz influenced carribean sounding track that gets the remix treatment from the equally talented Oliver $. It's a rolling epic journey of jungle sounds, ha ha ha, thats the best I could do. Enjoy

Riva Starr - Dance Me (Oliver $ Dub)

Melanchappiness

Melanc-happiness is the only way to truly describe this remix. The original by Donnacha Costello is a powerfully moving and somewhat sad song about dancing through hard times. When I discovered that it had been given the re-work treatment I was eager and anxious to see how they could add to the superb original. Neville Watson and KiNK manage to add a defiantly upbeat layer to the original, you dance thru your hard times, you sing thru your hard times...

Home

This number feels like home for so many reasons, It has a feel that embodies everything that is house to me. The big room feel that could move a whole dance floor, a simple rhythm that allows the most rhythmically challenged person to sway in ignorant bliss and the soulful interludes that build up the anticipation to a point where emotions literally explode onto the dance floor. Kudo's to Surrealism for allowing me to put into words what house music really means to me.

Surrealism - So Much

Bomba Taxi!

It's always exciting discovering new producers, last week I came across one, Thomas Schumacher. Be warned this track is epic, in a deep-tech, bass in your face way. It's a very simple track but it has a lot of attitude that comes across in its repetitive thumps. Enjoy..

Thomas Schumacher - Taxi

Solitary Brother

I must be honest, when I saw this release I was a tad wary because I was beginning to think that all of Stimmings remixes were all sounding the same to me. Although this track starts of in his signature style, it must be said that he develops the track into a full bodied banger with the greatest restraint allowing the vocals, eery vocals and double claps to carry it, instead of the usual heavy drums. All round this is a beautiful number, originally produced my martins stable mates, Ost & Kjex. Diynamic Music!

Ost & Kjex - Continental Lover (Stimming Remix)

Summer Mood

Well the worlds cup is in full swing in sunny SA, wait whats that? oh yes it's actually brutally cold in South Africa at the moment, a warm welcome to you all.. Well atleast there's all the soccer to distract us from the cold. It's still weird to think the greatest players in the world have converged on our humble nation. Anyway while it might be cold outside let OnuR Ozman put you in a summer mood with his jazzy little deep number, it's upbeat and just what you need to cheer you up. Jogo Fantastico!!!!

It's All About Hip Hop

Well I'm sure you're wondering why it's about HipHop today, the answer is simple, because it's of such high caliber that i had to feature it on the site. A few days back we got a teaser sample of Kanye Wests' long awaited album Good Ass Job, and wow did it silence his critics, he's back playing the role he's been vilified for (the egomaniac) and the beat is typical genius kanye drums with a sped up choir adding to the atmosphere of power, fear and anger. Also Kanye's protege: Kid Cudi also came out with a track i really can't get enough of, the naked drum beat and Cudi's "fuck-it-all" attitude is so amazing on this beat. Lastly Lupe Fiasco, who i have mad respect for because of the content of his lyrics also had a teaser of his upcoming album Lasers, it's amazing!!!

Long OverDUE

If anyone is listening, please bring Jimpster to South Africa, please, anyone, ok, moving on. I recently spent some time really going through this amazing producers discography and at the end of it all, i was in awe! Pure talent, tasteful restraint, perfect timing and the deepest soul ever. Here's a track i know you're going to love.

Jimpster - Dangly Panther

Redeem Yourself

These are probably one of the most poignant vocals I've heard on a banger in a long time. In fact they're the reason I love this track so much. That and the fact that it's a Motor City Drum Ensemble remix with the oh so talented Ben Onono on vocals. The ever present drums and strings make this a truly beautiful track. Listen to it and be moved..

NUfrequency - Fallen Hero (Motor City Drum Ensemble remix)

TECHNOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Resident Advisor: Jamie Jones

Machine love: Jamie Jones

RA sticks its head around the door of Jamie Jones' East London studio to find out which machines the Crosstown Rebels man is loving. "Ketamine tech house." Seems like a pretty derogatory tag at a glance. After all, both have been thought of—accurately or otherwise—as watchwords for dance floor monotony these past few years. In 2009 RA's William Rauscher seemed more than happy to apply the phrase to Jamie Jones' debut full-length, Don't You Remember the Future. Only in this context, it was in glowing terms. And you could clearly see what he meant. Ever since his first release, Amazon, for French label Freak n' Chic back in 2006, Jones' output has been shrouded in a sort of dense druggy fog; the peer pressure in this case is from the basslines and synths, baiting you to remain under and out for just that little bit longer.
Don't You Remember the Future sported one of the year's most ubiquitous tracks in "Summertime"; although whether it's been through Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical, BPitch or his own Hot Natured imprint, the productions emanating from Jones' East London studio have consistently been played, supported and danced to more than almost anything else out there. Oh, and there's also been an edit or two. Well, several in fact. The names Electric Jones, Hot Natured (alongside Lee Foss) and Jones/Mizrahi (with Gadi of Wolf + Lamb fame) have all acted as smoke screens for Jones' reinterpretations of hits from the likes of La Roux, MGMT and Radiohead. Keen to gain an insight into the gear and methodology behind his woozy grooves, we called up Jones' studio earlier this month to talk tech.

Back with a Vengeance

Well since I've been such a scrap lately, I thought I'd better deliver something good to make up for lost time. I came across this track by pure chance, while looking for study music. It's theatrical techno at it's best, the cognisant build ups and mellow breaks will have you playing this on repeat for a while to come. Now I guess I'll keep an eye out for Cosmic Cowboy's.
